HRP LogScope Update

Log Analysis Parameter Store

LogScope was designed to be intuitive and flexible. When analysing logs a major concern when performing an evaluation is the implementation of consistent analysis parameters across multiple wells. HRP has implemented a parameter store which allows a database of all parameters to be stored. This can save the user significant amounts of time on a new evaluation.

The parameter store is designed to store all the parameters used in a Log Analysis in the following way:

  • Geographic location of the well

  • Formation interval or Zone defined for each well.

An additional feature is the Python scripting available in LogScope allows the users to create formation interval parameters that are also included in this store.

The location of the well as entered in the well header is used to locate the well spatially. In that well there will be a number of formations (defined in LogScope as Zones) that allows the log analysis parameters to be assigned to a particular formation. A full list of parameters included in the store is listed in the log analysis manual.

Lets illustrate with a quick example. Well 1 below is our reference well. This may be determined by being the discovery well, most recent well, that it has the most extensive interval or it may just be the well in the field that has the most comprehensive data set. In our case we have 5 formations as shown in the screen shot below.

By selecting Log Analysis and tapping on the parameter button a second time we can save these formations and all the parameters to a parameter store. This store can be named and contain all related wells. A user can have multiple data stores.

So by having the parameter store that has the zone information referenced by formation (labeled zones in LogScope) and by geographic position. The user can select:

  • Master Well - A well that is designated master

  • Nearest Well - default

  • Latest Well - the latest evaluation

So as we load well 2 and can restore the parameters. The figure below shows the workflow for loading a new well. Key points to consider are consistency in names of formations (zones) and ensuring that latitude and longitude fields in header are filled in. On the left we have the selection of the saved parameter set and on the right the automatic mapping of parameters from zones. The "Reapply Mapping" button allows selection of Master well or Latest Well.

Well 2 was drilled as say an appraisal well in the same field. The evaluation should use the same parameters as Well 1.So in Well 2 we will get an evaluation below.

All the parameters get installed. Some points to watch out for are:

  • One needs to reset logging company for different zones. LogScope handles all logging companies.

  • Ensure correct neutron tool is selected for that particular logging company

The cross plots below show the parameters when loaded. The Well 1 is on the left and Well 2 is on the right. This allows the user to make any minor adjustments and save back to the parameter store,

The process affords LogScope users the following:

  • Track changing parameters across a prospective field or basin

  • Identify anomalous wells quickly

  • Complete multi-well evaluations efficiently and quickly
